Science

Grades 1-6
Science, as a process, starts with students learning skills such as observing, classifying, predicting, inferring, and hypothesizing. It also includes scientific reasoning, critical thinking, and decision making. The combination of these skills within the science curriculum content enables students to develop their understanding of science.

The goals of this curriculum are:

  • understanding connections among science,
    technology, society and the environment
  • developing science related skills
  • acquiring knowledge and understanding of concepts
  • developing responsible attitudes in the application of science and technology

Science is a "doing" curriculum and it is suggested that hands on activities should be offered wherever possible to enhance learning. The AIM Science curriculum is organized into one skills strand and four content strands:
- Healthy Living
- Life Science
- Physical Science
- Earth and Space Science

In Grades 7-9 the curriculum is organized to allow students to delve into a focus strand each year.. This table shows the different emphasis at each grade level.

  Grade 7 Grade 8 Grade 9
Biology Cells, Tissues, Organs and Systems Reproduction Ecosystems Sustainable Ecosystems
Physics What is Heat? Motion Optics, mechanical Efficiency Electricity
Chemistry Mixtures and Solutions Fluids Organic Chemistry Inorganic Chemistry
