Numeracy

 

Numeracy is the combination of mathematical knowledge, problem-solving and communication skills required to function successfully within our technological world. It involves both using mathematical skills and knowing how mathematics can be used in real context. It is the ability to reason with numbers and other mathematical concepts. To be numerically literate, a person has to be comfortable with logic and reasoning. Some of the areas that are involved in numeracy include: basic numbers, orders of magnitude, geometry, algebra, probability and statistics.

Numeracy at AIM is based on mathematical foundations and as full implementation progresses, increasingly requires the concrete applications of concepts and skills though problem solving as related to the following strands of the curriculum: - Number Sense and Numeration - Measurement - Geometry and Spatial Sense - Patterning and Algebra - Data Management and Probability
